First off, happy new year still! My first post of the year. Hope yours is off to a good start.
While I adore games like Persona 5 that feature casts of younger characters finding their way in the world, it feels like there are a lot of stories I like that could have characters of any age. So why do writers always jump at the chance to cast people as high schoolers?! Perhaps the idea is that people who grow up on go-getter shonen protags will become bitter and then only find characters like uh... Frasier... relatable? The typical Goku-to-Frasier pipeline. Very common transition of tastes.
All that to say - if you're also in the market for some more Media that features more characters over the age of 18 without immediately falling off into the deep end of "well we have adult characters now, so now all the subjects are edgy/dark/"Mature," then you may also find these enjoyable!

An objectively sensible progression of interest
I first watched this in high school before being shown the cruelties of the modern working world... and after having worked in IT for some time, this show is still accurate to corporate IT life and still wonderfully funny. With non-IT characters always doing something around Roy and Moss, the show has a great balance between being for nerds and being a show anyone can appreciate. Undeniably British.
If you want the period piece to end all period pieces, here it is. A Star Wars fan is diagnosed with a horrible illness and their dying wish is to see Star Wars... EPISODE 1... before they die. Don't show it to your kids, but watching it for the nostalgia trip is half the fun.
After having played the Hero of Law Zelda mod, I was convinced to play the Ace Attorney games. I was then inspired to keep playing in the third case of the game when Phoenix Wright complains about needing more work to show up at their door in order to keep paying for rent and food. I was sold! The mysteries are not often TOO deep but having everything build up through clever strings of logic and twists is very fun to see unfold.
Not gonna lie, I haven't finished Yakuza 0 but what I have played of it is pretty cool. It's very Japanese, very very SEGA-y and the characters are interesting. Don't be put off by MY not having finished it, I think I just played too much of it at once when I first started it lol.
Eat your heart out, Friends. Seinfeld is the definitive 90s sitcom. I mostly watch this so I can stare at whatever Apple computer Jerry has in his apartment in those scenes. Oh and the writing can be funny too.
I heard about City from Nichijou fans and picked up the first couple volumes of the manga at some bookstore I was at. Again, characters complaining about rent got to me. It's a slice of life story through and through, so just go read it and maybe buy a copy from a local bookstore if you can so that they stay open too.
Point and click game about a woman thrown in a loony bin. That's all.
Superhero story where you play as a 911-operator-type guy dispatching superheroes. It's made in the same vein as Telltale games with dialog options, but the gameplay of managing the dispatch system is very well done and it ends up being a lot more engaging than most of those other point and click-type games.
As always, chime in through the JOJO2K COMMUNAL UNIVERSE and let me know about your favorites and whatnot. Peace out!!!
